Thank you for posting this Dallas; This 'latest' crash had to be the worst of all of the ones I've suffered this month! (Hey, stop laughing Nick Andre, I can hear you over here <grin>)

I really thought the cumulative effect of all the recent crashes would require a complete reinstall of Linux - so much so that I entertained the thought of switching to Windows (seriously!).

I REALLY thought this box was toast and was preparing to post PRISM's obituary when I emailed you & some others from my laptop!

I really had given up up, then my son arrived and sh__, the kid is good. He'd switched to Windows years ago, but he knows this system since it was his way back...

He worked on it for hours yesterday, and voila! We're back in business. I tell you, kids are a blessing <g>

    Take care,
    Janis

I couldn't remember the filename for it, and had to search for it. I
also ran into a batchfile error in creating the large file list, with
expanded descriptions. So now, I'm going to copy in each files.bbs file
and rename it for its area, then put all of that into one file. However,
    storms are forecast overnight into Saturday, then Sunday into Wednesday;
with a threat of severe weather Sunday and Sunday night. So, I won't get

    I don't think it is _that_ old... This system is using Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz.

    and remote backup? :)

I think a Backup in this case would have continued the problems I was having because security issues in the bios prevented the OS from accessing some of the hardware... as I said earlier.

I don't know about sweden, but here in switzerland, we're open to interested persons. And: I'm only writing about Janis here, not other persons.

As we all get our echos from all over the place, the original concept of "regions" is a bit bogus anyway. However, we still have it and the current rules have to be respected. With our ZC having the say in who we connect, it's up to him to decide.

Janis helped me in the past, and i'm more than glad to return that favour to her.

While it is true that "araes of conveneient calling" have a different meaning then in the POTS age, you realize I hope that by dropping the "regional" concept you are opening a can of worms. It sets a far reaching precedent! How about Harro Wiersma? Would it be OK to you if he moved back to R28? You are also opening the door to a group of "dissident" sysops to set up their own region or net. That would bring us back to the situation with overlapping nets and the "Fido wars" we had in the 90ties here in The Netherlands.

And it should work both ways. If a sysop is allowed to move to another net, region or zone for "reasons", than a net region or zone should also be allowed to refuse a sysop for "reasons".

Plus that if you allow sysops to move to another net, region or zone for political reasons, you bring real life politics into Fidonet. That would open up an ever bigger can of worms. How about moving the "Russion" sysops in Crimea to R50?

As we all get our echos from all over the place, the original concept
of "regions" is a bit bogus anyway. However, we still have it and the current rules have to be respected. With our ZC having the say in who

I do not think one man should make such a far reaching decision for all of Fidonet.

Janis helped me in the past, and i'm more than glad to return that
    favour to her.

What favour would that return? As you say yourself, we can get our echos from all over the place. To get Swiss echos, she does not need a Swiss node number. The "favour" you would "return" is to give her the opportunity to make a political statement.

Think very carefully before you open up that can of worms.

    Cheers, Michiel

No man has. ZCs have largely agreed we prefer no listings "out of zone" for a diversity of reasons which you have listed in your mail. For the same reasons listing within one's own region is prefered if someone wants to be a node. Points and users are a different thing.

When I notice out-of-zone entries, they are removed faster than someone can say "een pintje alstublieft".

Most of the ZCs do communicate with eachother ... this past week Nick and I were on the phone for more than an hour to compare notes ...

For those who do not read the nodelist as the Sunday morning paper,
    Janis has rejoined us ...

    She wants to become a Z2-sysop ...

Yeah, blew me out the water when I started getting EchoMail from 261/38 (all ended up in BAD_MSGS since my link change.) Wrote her, but no answer to either NetMail or e-mail.

    Best regards,
    Marc

Just a sysop? Or is she moving to Europe? ;-)

She wants to scare the shit out of Putin ... that's good enough for
    me ...

ROTFL! NC of the Kremlin. She'd twitlist Putin. <g>

    Best regards,

I want to put attention to the fact that this should have been done a long time ago. And not for political reasons, not because they are "Russians", but simply in accordance with paragraph 1.3.2 FPD. Meanwhile, at the request of R46C, I did not raise this issue.

    Have nice nights.
    Stas Mishchenkov.

Ah, okay. I guess she'll answer if she feels like it. Thanks for letting me know.

He has been welcome to nodelist in Z1.  Nick Andre has reached out to him before.  The "Cajun" always has an excuse as to why he cannot.

Yeah - I already figured that. All talk - no do.
