From Rick Smith@1:105/81 to All on Tue Feb 8 09:14:10 2022
    Hello All!

I posted this in a sysop area as well. Since October last year I get areafix messages on the hub for an area "Eric" that cannot be found. The weird part is each time I get the message its from a different node that I host? Even at times comes from my own BBS's, I am posting a typical areafix message I get below.

My questions are first and foremost how do I kill it and keep it from circulating? Also is there a areafix log I can turn on in congig? In my hpt.log it only shows the netmail getting packed and tossed I get no other information on it.

I have talked to every node that I host and noone has made this request at all.

    Area Status

First of all, look in the directories set by Inbound, LocalInbound, ProtInbound, tempDir, TempInbound, TempOutbound whether anything is stalled there. It may also be useful to change the script which calls tossing and copy the incoming pkt to some directory just before "hpt toss". It may be also good to print to some log file the date and time and the pkt name. Thus you may make sure that nobody sends you the message.

Also is there a areafix log I can turn on in congig?

The digit 8 should be in LogLevels.

SO I call hpt toss etc from a exec nice statement in binkd.cfg.. I wrote a script to copy pkts to a temp dir but I cant seem to get it to run before the toss.. can I execute a script in the binkd.cfg ahead of the toss?

sure... just use a script to do what you want and then run the tosser at the end of the script instead of firing the tosser directly from binkd...

Insert `hpt toss` into your script after copying pkts. And call your script from binkd.cfg instead of calling hpt toss.

You can start the script in binkd.cfg. The script should include the complete tossing process with backing up first and then tossing and maybe some final work like linking or ticking.

It is scripting that glues a whole FTS software system together.

Thank you Kai. I cant seem to get binkd.cfg to run my script. I entered it into binkd.cfg like the hpt toss line that I had. I believe it was exec "nice -n 19 /usr/local/bin/copypkt.sh" however it will not run binkd reports cfg error.. my hpt toss line looks like
    exec "nice -n 19 /usr/local/bin/hpt toss afix" /z/in/*.[STFWMstfwm][ouaherOUAHER][0-9A-Za-z] *.[pP][kK][tT]
    and works fine...

The "exec" line in binkd.cfg should include not only the script path, but also the file pattern. So,
    /z/in/*.[STFWMstfwm][ouaherOUAHER][0-9A-Za-z] *.[pP][kK][tT]
    should follow exec "nice -n 19 /usr/local/bin/copypkt.sh".

So the message is from your node to itself.

Look for a pkt with the message or the message itself in Inbound, LocalInbound, ProtInbound, tempDir, TempInbound, Outbound, TempOutbound. Delete it if you find it.
