    Hello Everybody,

I’ve been infected with COVID19. This was all due to my carelessness,
for ignoring the advice provided by the government and all those around
me. It’s a wonder how significantly one person’s actions can affect the greater society.. I am apologetic toward those who may have also been
inflicted with the virus because of me. I’ve become like this because
of my stupid decision, to live thinking it’ll never be me. I am being hospitalized. I am wrapped up feelings of gratitude and apology while reflecting on my past. There are so many things I want to say.. I want
    to see so many people..

    practice social distancing at least.

this is such the wrong term... "physical distancing" is the thing to do... "social distancing" implies, among other things, staying distant from social media but this is probably one of those "cable modems are not modems" types of discussion... kinda the thing that happens when engineers design user interfaces...

Yep, physical distance is what we want.

Around here we here on the news the buzz word is "social distancing" so that's why I call it that.

Of course here in the nets we don't need to keep any kind of distance at all more than we already have.. :)

I heard the term "physical distancing" a couple of days ago on CBC for the first time and it sounded like this is the official term they use in Canada. My fist thougt was: this is so much better than "social distancing".

    I concur - April fool's or not.

Korean pop star Jaejoong, from the K-Pop group JYJ, is the idiot
who made the claim by posting a message on Instagram (on April 1).

All I did was post an English translation of his original message.

Of course it was not funny. Which was the point. But only Alan
had the enough sense to understand that people get sick every day,
not because of a certain day.

Ellis Marsalis (jazz pianist and music instructor) left this world
on April 1 due to COVID-19. He was 85 years young, and still
performing. His four sons are devastated, all of them musicians.
Not only has New Orleans lost one of its finest, but so has the
    entire world.

The virus is an equal opportunity infector. It does not care
who you are, how old you are, what color you are, how tall you
are, how fat you are, or anything else you might be. All it
cares about is infecting whoever it can find who is susceptible.

Yes, it is. Same as what others have been saying and/or doing.
Including the current President of the United States.

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/18/coronavirus-donald-trump -timeline

I did not count the number of untruths and downright lies he said.
I'll leave that up to others.

It's the second instance of you're having disappointed me this month.

That's all? What about politicians who continually lie in order
to hide the truth? Certainly Donald Trump is not the only one ...

    Sometimes it is best just not to say anything;

Tacit approval. When good men do nothing they get what they
truly deserve. That is what happened in Germany many decades
ago. That is what is happening in other places today.

If you are satisfied with what you have today, then please
do continue to do say and do nothing. You will reap your own
    reward.

A Korean entertainer posted a stupid comment on Instagram.
I posted an English translation of his post. How does that
make either the Korean entertainer or me evil? Stupid, and
    careless, yes. But evil?

Picking one's nose in public is disgusting. So is coughing
or sneezing into the top of one's shirt. Usually harmless.
Do it online and it is perfectly safe for everyone.

What politicians do can be matters of life and death.

Such as what the British Prime Minister wanted to do in regards
to the coronavirus in his beloved country -

    https://theoutline.com/post/8849/british-coronavirus-response-herd -immunity?zd=1&zi=h6cifnpo

Kind of like saving your house by burning down the most flammable
parts, hoping somebody is left alive inside.

a most often used practice of mine.

Would you say nothing if your kid was falsely accused of having
committed a capital offense and sentenced to death for a crime he
    did not commit?

By doing nothing, President Trump has killed many Americans who
otherwise would have lived. That makes him a murderer by definition.
Should we hang him? Gas him? Electrify him? Have him shot by
firing squad? Inject him with lethal drugs? Or just grant him a
pardon by doing nothing ourselves, making us accessories to the
    crime?

    Agreed.

It was still carelessness on my part. Should have been much
more careful, and respectful of others' feelings.

Again I would have to agree.

Jokes about COVID-19 will continue online, as live permormances
are no longer possible for comedians, with everybody in
    lockdown.

Yes, I have noticed an occasional attempt at a COVID-19 joke too.
And while a joke to raise people's spirits isn't a bad thing.
Making jokes about something that people are dying from certainly
    won't make anyone smile.

What are people to do? There are no venues for entertainment.
No sports. No movies. No live music anywhere, at bars or concerts.
Not even restaurants or other places to congregate.

That's the nature of the beast with a "Lockdown". Here in Minnesota it's refered to "Shelter in Place" meaning that unecessary travel or congregation
is frowmed upon. The governors order isn't a complete lockdown and it allows necessary travel and activities and services to continue that wouldn't result in close physical proximity to others. People will be allowed to exercise outdoors and visit the grocery stores, get gas and medicines for example,
with reasonable physical distancing. I was contemplating going camping up
in northern Minnesota (By myself) this weekend depending on the weather.

I have taken the oppotunity in recent days to talk more on HF (Globally),
and VHF, UHF (Locally) on my Ham radios as well as web conferencing with friends around the world. So.. For me at least it hasn't impacted me much.

Everybody is on edge these days, as nobody knows how or when
this will end. Or what comes next. People use humor as their
relief from tension. Especially when there is nothing else
around that can readily do so.

People are reacting to the COVID-19 virus in several different
ways. Personally, I try to take common sense actions to minimize
my chances of contracting the virus. And no... I don't have a
garage full of toilet paper and cleaning products. I did buy a
single 12 pack of TP that should last me about three months. :)

Anybody who buys 144 rolls of toilet paper to last two weeks of
lockdown should be seeing a doctor right away ...

Yeah, sadly some act like a symptom or side effect of the Covid-19
virus is that it would make people shit themselves to death.

    Jeff

if lee's post saying he was infected with COVID-19 was a joke, it was
in extremely massive poor taste... this shit is nothing to joke
    about... at all...

Lee continues to post here just like ever. I don't know how crowded hospitals in Lousiana are these days, but I don't think they'll take
    people
having only minor symptoms. However, if he had severe symptoms and was hospitalised, I wouldn't expect him to post here anymore.

Hospitals everywhere are already filled to capacity, with many infected
not able to receive treatment, being forced to remain at home.

Ward sent a single message before he went to hospital, from there on
    there
    was nothing.

Just because someone makes a claim does not make it so.

In your initial post did you state that you were quoting anyone
else? Posting a message claining that YOU had the virus as a
joke was NOT cool Lee. I would have expected better of you. :(

Your right. No excuses. I really should have known better.

I was too hasty when posting. Just cut-and-pasted the text
(English translation) of what Korean pop star Jaepoong had put
on Instagram. I should have noted who said it, along with url.

    Agreed.

Most folks heve never been tested for the coronavirus,
the rate in the USA being 2 per 1000. In most European
countries the rate is not much better, at 6 per 1000.

Most folks who die of COVID-19 never make it to the hospital.

Most folks who make it to the hospital with COVID-19 never make
    it out alive.

Ward has a daughter who is a health care professional. But how
meaningful is that if she was unaware if he was even sick?

I hope he survives, or has survived.
