• Why We Write

From Lee Lofaso@2:203/2 to All on Fri Feb 7 21:23:53 2020
    Hello Everybody,

    Why do we write?
    Can anybody tell me why?
    Does anybody really even know?
Maybe none of us even has a clue.
    And yet here we are.
Everybody must do whatever they do for a reason.
    So what is your excuse?
    Why do you write?

While it may always be gratifying,
at least to you, and maybe even an
    admirable accomplishment that you alone
adore, what does that achieve (if anything)?
What award is there to be won?
What award is there to even be nominated for?

Fidonet has elections in various echoes, but
I know of no moderator who has ever won an award
for having won such an election. However, I
could be wrong. So please enlighten me if I am
mistaken. Maybe there are no real moderators.
Therefore no need for any awards of any kind.
And yet, we continue to write.

Maybe we are more driven to write by some
kind of inner need to respond to things we
see going on around us. Such as trolls who
keep trolling the Fidonews in order to get
some kind of rise out of all. Along with
things that strike us as likely to happen
in the future. Such as trolls who keep
trolling the Fidonews in order to get some
kind of rise out of all.

It is quite natural for all writers to want
to entertain and move readers, the same as all
trolls do. Which is why all writers try to
simultaneously goad readers into thinking about
themselves and their own little universe and
their own possible futures in ways they might
not ever have done before. IOW, writers want
everybody to see themselves as being trolls.
Just like the real trolls who keep trolling
the Fidonews in order to get some kind of
    rise out of all.

Maybe we as writers are simply trying to hint
at a way for us all to build a better future.

    Or not.
