• Pledge Allegiance to the Party

    Hello Everybody,

How to obtain a node number in Fidonet -

"You must indicate that you have read, and agree to abide by,
this document and all the current policies of FidoNet."
    ~ Fidonet Pledge of Allegiance

How to obtain a license to practice law in China -

"I promise to faithfully fulfill the sacred mission of socialism
with Chinese characteristics ... loyalty to the motherland, its
people, and uphold the leadership of the Communist Party of China."
    ~ Chinese Pledge of Allegiance

Those who wrote the policy document known as P4 are no different
than their Chinese masters, as shown above.

The Chinese oath has hurt the development of the Chinese legal
system. And it continues to do so to this very day. So why do
the Chinese insist on continuing to do things in the same way?
Could it be force of habit?

Why do a small number of Fidonet sysops continue to insist on
all applicants to take a similar loyalty oath? If an individual
refuses to pledge allegiance to "the sacred mission of socialism
with Chinese characteristics", do you think that individual will
be denied a license to practice law? Excluding other people in
the legal profession who belong to other political parties or
have other religious beliefs is not going to help build a better
legal system. Likewise, excluding those who refuse to pledge
loyalty to the leadership of Fidonet is not going to help build
    a better Fidonet.

The biggest destroyer of the number of sysops in Fidonet is the
leadership of Fidonet. Nobody else is to blame but them.

Irrelevant when applying for a Fidonet node number.

If you find this so abhorrent why would you even want to be part of Fidonet? [...]

There is no "leadership" in Fidonet - only nodelist clerks.
