I liked the idea of Fidonet when it was a text-based message network.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

Agree to some point but at least I still see only text in this message. :)

I have a retro Fidonet setup here; I download QWK packets and read them in DOSBOX using MultiMail for DOS, using QEDIT or VDE as an editor. In full screen.

I don't have the ability to copy and past to/from DOSBOX, so reading my BBS messages is single-task/single-focus, just like the old days. I like the lack of multi-tasking and the lack of elements outside of the BBS networks.

Pain junkie, huh. :) I loved offline readers... last century.

This config runs on a USB stick: binkD front, GoldEd and Thunderbird (old versions, both), JamNNTPd server, and CrashMail tosser provides the glue. It boots on any PC with a LAN/net link.

    I thought I was running retro. ;)

    Cheers,
    Paul.

Oh, did I mention that my version of DOSBOX includes comm port to IP redirection, and I'm telnetted to my BBS using TELIX?

    :)

I'm happy for you. Really. :)

It also reminds of the last time I printed a user manual for anything BBS-wise. Once upon a time in 1994 I printed Telix's manual, v3.14? 10 days later IIRC the next version was released. :P

    Cheers,
    Paul.

During the days of fullscreen 80x25... Sure. ;)

Last century, yes. These days, except my RDP sessions to vBox VMs (like this), I'm doing about double of each of those dimensions. I like GoldEd at 160x40.

Even on this netbook I'm doing 100x35 at 1024x600 res, on the 9inch (23cm?) screen. :)

    Cheers,
    Paul.
