From Lee Lofaso@2:203/2 to All on Sat Oct 19 18:28:21 2019
    Hello Everybody,

Why is Fidonet dying? Many sysops have been asking that
question for quite a while. And so have probatioary sysops,
    such as myself and others.

    I finally figured it out.

It is all somebody else's fault. Namely, sysops. Not those
who are probationary sysops, but full-fledged sysops. So please.
Do not blame me. It really is not my fault.

You see, sysops are generally afraid of their own shadow. So
they're looking for reasons not to post. That is why there are
so many empty echoes in Fidonet. Just take a look around. How
many echoes are there that are mere shells? Almost all of them.
Empty wood that should have been removed years ago.

With the ten or fifteen sysops who do post messages, they
do so only in secret amongst themselves. Which is not Fidonet
at all, but rather a mutual masturbating society.

As such, what remains of Fidonet is nothing more than a museum
piece. The number of probationary sysops can be counted on the
fingers of one hand. The total number of full-fledged sysops
in Fidonet is less than a thousand, with only perhaps two dozen
    posting messages of any kind.

How many full-fledged sysops invite others to log onto their
systems to participate in Fidonet? Virtually none. Why is that?
The only reason I can come up with is sysops are deathly afraid
of their own shadow. They would not know what to do if it hit
    them in the face.

Hence the need for "sysop only" echoes, where sysops can keep
whacking themselves with their own tiny hands.

I hope they enjoy their hobby.

    Hello Sam,

This is a bit out of what fido net is the language is not what fido net
    is,

This is how David D. describes what Fidonet is, which may not
be what others think it is or should be -

Fidonet is not Internet Social Media. Each of those entire sites
is managed by one entity. Fidonet is NOT an entity - it is a
technical agreement by a bunch of individuals. We are all omnipotent
    - on our own systems only. You are free to implement a "no trolls" DD>>edict on YOUR system. You don't have that power on any others.

If Fidonet is a "technical agreement by a bunch of individuals",
with each individual being "omnipotent" unto himself/herself, then
what other definition could be needed or wanted?

I certainly would not agree to allow anybody (living or dead) to
mess with my system. I am lord and master of my own little universe,
and swim in the mess of my own creation. Which is exactly the way I
    want it.

Respect for others seems to be out of touch with you.

Respect for others? You have got to be kidding me. Respect
is something that is earned. And nobody earns my respect until
they have finished the ball game (depending on how they end the
    game).

I dont normally get involved messages like this but your wrong fido net
    is
slowly faiding away because of the internet.

Blaming all your problems on the internet is no different than
blaming it all on the devil. Just another excuse for having no
    excuse.

You expressing yourself is your right but there are rules!

Rules? Unlimited free speech means exactly what the term means.

And maybe you should read them again.

Rule #1: There are no rules.
    Rule #2: See Rule #1.

This message gives fidonet a bad name!

What would you like to change it to?

All were can do is try to keep it alive.

A zoo is a collection of live animals.
A museum is a collection of dead objects.

Fidonet has become nothing but a museum of dead objects (echoes
with no content). And you want to keep that alive? It is already
    dead!

No matter how often those museum pieces get shined and buffed,
they will remain dead. There is no resurrection of the dead that
is even possible. So why keep what is dead? Let it go!

Create something different! Something better! And invite all
to come and play! Out with the old, and in with the new!

No more "sysops only" echoes that keep newcomers away. No more
exclusive clubs where only old-timers can congregate amongst
themselves. In order to grow, Fidonet has to undergo new birth
pangs. And you know what that means. Somebody has to have a
baby. And you can help make that happen! In fact, every sysop
    in Fidonet can!

Nobody knows what this new baby will look like. At least not until
after it is born. And then, we will all either be amazed, or truly
horrified. There is only one way to find out ...

    Thanks Sam

Don't thank me. This will be a community effort ...

I give due credit to all. Quite unlike most folks, who take without
asking and claim it as their own. See how nice I am? I actually keep
the commandment not to steal (except when playing baseball).
