• About Roger Nelson

From Ward Dossche@2:292/854 to All on Fri Sep 13 08:13:22 2019
I have just received written confirmation from Roger's daughter that there is no obituary going to be published in a paper or on a website. Whatever will be written in Fidonews and the Fidogazette will be the only trace later that once there was a man named Roger Nelson who was liked by a lot of people.

Writing such a contribution in a way is quite a task and an honor.

It was Roger's wish it seems to silently slip away without making too many waves and his daughter, who's taking care of the arrangements, is honouring that wish.

Well you're a good writer Ward, and items you have penned in the Fidonews in the past I have always thought were well written and spoke from the heart. You'll be fine and although I can't say I knew Roger well I'm sure he would have appreciated those efforts. It's good a community can reflect on a member and if you're able to share some thoughts etc. in whatever you opt to write I think others will also take some comfort and solace from reading them.

    Hope that helps...

    Hello Ward,

I have just received written confirmation from Roger's daughter that
    there
is no obituary going to be published in a paper or on a website.

    Thank you for informing us.

Whatever will be written in Fidonews and the Fidogazette will be the only trace later that once there was a man named Roger Nelson who was liked by lot of people.

If Roger Nelson was a real person, there is or will be an official
record of his death. Otherwise, the entity once known as Roger Nelson
was just a figment of our collective imagination.

Wherever possible there must be independent confirmation of facts.

    What are the facts?

Writing such a contribution in a way is quite a task and an honor.

Japanese view death as nothing more than another part of this
dream-world we call life. Is their sense of honor any better or
worse than yours, or anybody else's?

It was Roger's wish it seems to silently slip away without making too
    many
waves and his daughter, who's taking care of the arrangements,
    is honouring that wish.

All deaths (of real people) are a matter of public record.

I did not have the privilege, of knowing Mr. Nelson, but it does provide a different perspective on certain types of people that you thought you knew concerning what makes them tick, then there is this, makes you re-think the pre-concieved notions that they are not at all as I thought.
This the best revelation one can have. I am sorry for your loss of your
    friend.

I believe that is true. I also believe all in the Fidonet
community feel the same way. Thank you for your thoughts.

    Hope that helps...

Like most others, I never met Roger in person. He had his own
way of showing appreciation for others, even if left unsaid.
He was from New Orleans, the city that care forgot. But none
of us should ever forget Roger, who contributed so much of
his own time to this hobby we all call Fidonet - a free
association of sysops (and others) the world over.

Like most folks, I never met him in person. Like most folks,
I am also deeply saddened to learn the news of his death, and
have expressed my own condolensces in this forum.

but it does provide a different perspective on certain types of people

you thought you knew concerning what makes them tick, then there is this, makes you re-think the pre-concieved notions that they are not at all as thought.

I tend to question what cannot be independently verified.
That does not mean I am calling a person who makes the claim
a liar, as many people can make a statement and be mistaken.

This the best revelation one can have.
