I forgot ;) did I told here that according to modern science humans
started populate Earth from Africa. I hope you know that people from
Africa are and always were black. So, so called "whites" are just faded Africans. ;-)

By the time they reached Lappland (home of Santa) their pigments had totally adopted to the sunlight above the polar circle. He is now white as snow.

To be more exact, black skin pigments became useless in northern
latitudes, and they stopped to be generated.
