Do you seriously think that he has only one phone number
and it became famous?
Good point. Someone who takes the initiative to develop an
alternative comms package would certainly be conscious of being
tracked and spied on.
Even I have a number that no one knows. And, by the way,
it is not difficult at all to acquire a number that is in
no way connected with the owner's name. ;)
Yes.. a lot of that is probably going on too. I see several
cellphone companies offering "international" SIM cards. So, it
wouldn't have to be restricted to the +7 country code that you
mentioned.
I could probably pose as Joe Smo in the UK, sign up for a phone
plan there, and have the card mailed to me in Canada.
If payment can be arranged via Bitcoin, then that would add
another layer of obfuscation. But even a bitcoin payment would
have a paper-trail to the source of funds.
And... there will be a paper trail left by using the postal
system.
And... then, when using the card over the cell system, the user
can be located anyway.
