Other than that, that subj line is limited to 40 chars. If the
author omits creating one, the system will use the 1st 40 chars
of the message for the subj.

I think the subject line can be up to 72 chars.

I seem to recall that too. QWKE implemented the longer subject
lines. A few more OLRs/systems followed.

But apparently even 40 is too long for some people. :/

So, although 40 is not as long as FTN allows, one person finds
    it "annoying". :|

Meanwhile, QWK users will receive a chopped version down to 25
    courtesy of their chosen programs/systems.

I think it is more annoying when people *don't* adjust the subj
according to the message content. :/

That's an old standard. The only time you'll see short
subject lines is if someone enters a short subject, or if a
    QWK reader cuts it short.

The Telegram approach to produce a subject from the first 40-
chars in a message is better than having absolutely nothing.

In list view, that subject acts as a kind of preview/excerpt of
    the message within.

Yep, I think the subject line on this message is 53 characters. There's nothing wrong with that I can see.

Guilty! I rarely change the subject line when replying, the idea doesn't even cross my mind.

Yep, a good subject line is handy. I often scan the messages based on the subject line when I am in a hurry, as seems to be the case the last little while.

    Ttyl :-),
