That script locks up an older browser and pc up tight. It's
hard to recover due to the delays that Windows is involved with
    when it locks up.

On my Win7 and a more recent FF browser, it's fine.

You mean when you visit the apod website it locks up your PC?

Computers and web browsers seem to change so fast these days that things that worked yesterday may or may not work today in favour of whatever the new thing is.

On my Win7 and a more recent FF browser, it's fine.

I don't actually have an older OS or web browser I can run. I've noticed that ftp links don't work anymore in my FF, v 90.something.

That's a real bummer for me but I guess that's progress, or something.

Well.. as the APOD page was trying to render, there was nothing
I could do to. I couldn't move the mouse, keyboard commands
were unresposive (even ctr-alr-del to get the task manager
wouldn't work) ..to the point where I was ready to force a hard
shutdown 'cuz nothing seemed to be changing for a very long
    time.

But, I noticed that the wifi-light on the pc was still showing
activity, so I gave everything a chance and waited a bit
    longer.

Yeah.. ftp from the browser was very convenient. I liked it.

That's a real bummer for me but I guess that's progress,
    or something.

It's breaking the enjoyment of visiting some web-bbses that
offered file areas directly from the browser.
