    Hi, ALL!

    -----Beginning of the citation-----
    "The Northen magnetic pole has drifted towards Siberia at around 34 miles per year in recent years."

    https://edition.cnn.com/2019/08/07/world/earth-magnetic-field-reversal-scn/inde x.html
    ----- The end of the citation -----

    I know, miles are different in the world. What a mile does CNN mean? In meters I mean.

    Bye, ALL!

    does CNN mean? In meters I mean.

    Suggested corrections:

    I know** miles are different *around* the world. What **
    mile does CNN mean? In meters*,* I mean.

    But I should put it this way:

    I know that the definition of a mile varies throughout the
    world. Which mile, then, does the CNN reporter mean, in
    meters?

    the statute mile is 5280 feet... a nautical mile is 6000 feet... in general, when folks are just talking, the statute mile is what they speak of... in aircraft and water vessel discussions, the nautical mile is the default... based on the citation and having grown up using miles all the time, i'd default to statute miles...

    so we have:
    34 sm -> 54717.7 meters
    34 nm -> 62968 meters

    I would suggest, if I understand the question correctly, something like this:

    What is the metric equivalent of 34 miles?

    The answer, btw, is 54.7 Km.

    (Just saw Mark's answer - it's better than mine!)

    Cheers... Dallas
