    Hi,

I really like this "Recent Messages" WCX widget!

    Why?

Because if my Wife likes it and she can use it without training, then it
has to have some value. :-)

    I have this HTML-RECENTMAIL.WCX setup at http://www.winserver.com and I
also just finished provide a first BETA version for you to explore and
use at your own site. To get the beta, goto the Developer's Corner at
the support site and you see a link "Beta Applications" and that will
take you to the "Recent Message" beta.

I also added a public anonymous access (no login required) concept to it
so that you can show "recent messages" in public conference areas.

This anonymous access works in the same way the FTP anonymous access
with the special "Anonymous FTP" account and security/access profile you create to define the accessible public FILE areas.

For html-recentmail.wcx (and the new RSS stuff that is being done), a
special account and password can be created:

Special Account for Public Mail Areas:

    username: ANONYMOUS RSS
    password: RSS

Create a special security/access for this account, like ANONY_RSS and
then define the JOIN/READ access for the mail areas. Also enable web
access via the internet toggle: [X] Allow Web Server Access.

Then you use a public url, like so:

    /public/code/html-recentmail.wcx

This is very easy to explore:

Just unzip the file from your \WCx root folder and thats it!

If you decide you don't want this, simple delete these two custom files installed:

    http\template\custom\wcButtonMenu-MailAreas.inc
    http\template\custom\message_frame_init.wct

Give it a shot. We really want to get comments and "feature" list for this.

    Thanks

    Folks,

We are exploring a new feature to display the "recent messages".

Log into the BBS and see it for yourself in the message client.

Right now, it displays the recent messages 7 days old in all conferences.

I think this has lots of potential and I want your comments and feature
    list here, like USER OPTIONS.

Here is the options I am thinking:

    - Scan only Selected Message Areas
    - Display user defined X last days
    - Follow your Last Read position (see comment below)
    - Show Entire Topic Messages in window ?????
    - Other ideas?

I already like this, I saw two messages I didn't know existed until I
used this a little while ago. I first had it following my last read pointer which meant that as I click it, it didn't show any more messages
for that conference. So I turned it off to display the last 7 days.
This allow me to come back and redisplay the list.

I also added the button "recent mail" to the button table. What kind of icon should we use for this?

Anyway, this is part of a new Wildcat! 7.0 "user home page" dashboard,
that will have a summary of activity:

    - Recent Messages
    - Recent Files
    - Headlines - RSS links
    - Support Resources - Our summary of help
    - Support Network - Links to other Wildcat! Systems
    - Your Support Messages - your history of your postings
    - Your File Downloads - your history of downloads
    - Your Support Journal - your notepad of wildcat tips, advice, operations, etc.

I have a beta version for you to try out at:

    http://www.winserver.ccom/dev (Developer's Corner)

Click the BETA Applications option to download and setup information.

After studying this more, I think we already have the technology that
will work really nice with this Recent Messages. If you think about
it, and the QWK people will feel this, this is basically a SCAN of
your messages that in the past we use to DOWNLOAD as a QWK.

QWK already gave users "Conference Options"

    - Scan All
    - Scan Personal only
    - Scan Personal and mail to ALL
    - Scan all using Last Read pointer

You can see this via Telnet in "Your Setting | Offline Mail Options"

    What do you think?
