    Shane,

Have you got a working copy of wcnavi95 that will install in Win98? I
have a lot of clients getting new computers for Christmas and I am now recommending they use DUN to connect because of problems installing
    wcNav under W98.

    tnx...kmb

Have you tried the gamma installer that Shane put together and asked
folks to test? The first version of it had some Win98-related problems,
but it looks like they're all cleared up in the most recent version.

Keith, please don't take this wrong, but you don't need another copy of
wcNav to load on Win98 machines. The last one put out months ago works
fine. Now what you do need to do is understand the Win98 setup that
some techs do when they set up their machines. I just loaded wcNav on a
Win98 machine today for a client.

If you are not aware of it, you can hit "ctrl, alt, del" all at the same
time and a Task Manager comes up. What you will find is a lot of
programs running that interfere with many installations including
wcNav installer. "End Task" on all of the items you see except the
'Explorer' and the 'SysTray" item and then run the install. It should
work fine. After the installation is done, reboot the computer and all
the things you ended will be reloaded and all should be well.

If this does not help, I am sorry since it works well for me when
installing on win98 machines at a rate of about 6-8 per week.

    Rick

Try the version in the gamma test file area (under the winserver group).
Haven't heard any complaints with installs with this version. The
software is the same, just a new installer.

No I just tried the release file that's on the ftp server. As this is
the one anyone can get access to.

I downloaded this file and it installed fine, (other than not using
    ../program files/wcnav as a default path ;-)

However, I am using this on my network and I get the error "Winsock was
not able to connect to: 209.53.217.194 because the address was not
found" I can ping this address or telnet to it using Qmodem 95 so I know
my tcp settings are ok. I get the same error when trying to log on to online.winserver.com btw.

I use the telnet connection to both my server and your bbs every day???
