I was running windows 8 and had to re-install windows 7 which made me do
a new install via disk Ver 6.4 Build 454.2

    1) when installing disk hang at finalizing setup

    2) received wcsetup dootnt.dll could not open

    3) when using wcstart wcsmtp will not load, so when trying to use command prompt to invoke it seems to proceed but no icon shows as running in tray.

    any ideas?

    I was running windows 8

    Intentionally? :)

when installing disk hang at finalizing setup

So this was an incomplete install on Windows 7 32bit or 64bit?

received wcsetup dootnt.dll could not open

Which sounds like either a 16bit component issue with a 64bit OS or a media error on a 32bit OS.

If the install was incomplete it could point to issues with regards to component registration and/or a missing VC++ redistributable

when using wcstart wcsmtp will not load, so when trying to use command prompt to invoke it seems to proceed but no icon shows as running in .

When invoked at the CLI does it appear when you type TASKLIST. That is are
you certain the process is running?

Are you running within a Windows7 user account where error reporting is
    turned OFF via:

Control Panel > System and Security > Action Center
    > Change Action Center Settings?

If error reporting is off you will not see the wcSMTP.EXE startup error(s).

I would certainly try and find out why wcSMTP is failing to load.

In terms of media your options would be:

    1) Copy across a known good backup of your complete install
    2) If you have a current AUP subscription then run the AUP
    3) Check with SSI for a new source CD copy.

As long as it works the version is not immediately critical.

If you were running the BETA of Wildcat! 7, I am wondering whether it may
have failed before it installed the VC++ 2010 redist, which SSI have as a download on the BBS.

The electronic version of the AUP is fine, but if you are doing installs
from CD (rather than file & reg copy) it is best to have a new CD with the latest build.
