    Ruben,

What's happening for single dads at Thanksgiving?

I never had any kids myself, so I was never a "father". However, my
late wife and I had a dachshund when we were married, so I guess he
was my "step-dog". <G> Plus, after having a severe case chicken pox
when over 40 years ago (it almost went into encephalitis), then working
around methyl-ethyl-ketone for nearly 20 years in silkscreen printing
(I likely absorbed a lot of it), I had a vasectomy done before I got married...so, that ended the potential for fathering kids. Unfortunately,
2 complications now are recurring attacks of epididymytis, and UTI's.

However, I lost my Dad and wife nearly 14 years ago, and my Mom 15
months ago. My brother lives in the western part of the county, but
he's going to a lady friend's home (she and her husband are cooking
for him). He has been divorced 3 times, and had no kids either. He
    basically is alone as well.

Today, I'm going to Kroger to get a turkey dinner, with possibly
cranberry sauce, rice, peas, and pumpkin pie...for a main meal...but
it's always microwaved. My health has gotten so bad with degenerative
disk disease and arthritis that I can't sit at the computer for long
periods of time...let alone stand for more than a minute at the stove,
sink, toilet, or in the shower.

I never remarried after my wife died. At this stage of life, too many
    folks have "excess baggage"...such as:

    1) Physical issues -- par for the course as one gets older

    2) Financial issues -- massive credit card debt (I don't want to go down
    the bankruptcy road again).

    3) Emotional issues -- they want folks to fight their battles for them

    4) Law issues -- they or their kids are in trouble with the law

    5) Family issues -- the kids treat their parents like crap, and the
    parents won't show "tough love".

In short, I don't want or need that drama in my life.

    Daryl

Sadly, I fear that many single dad as well as family members in general will be "Missing Out" this holiday season. I know a number of family members here are planning on being cautious on getting together during the holidays. What's important IMO is to make sure that one's family members are loved and thought of this holiday season.

Sadly all my kids are grown and most have families of their
own. I often times wish I was more mobile and could visit
the various states that they reside in. I try to stay as
    connected as can regardless.

That sucks. But I do know about not able to stand for long period of times, etc. But I pray for your health.

Yes, being involved does bring its issues, but the alternate is even worse for me, that is being alone. I do have family 4 kids and 6 grandkids and even with all the "drama" that comes with a family, I wouldn't trade them for anything.

    Have a great Xmas Holidays!

That's true. I gave my brother a "bizarre" birthday card yesterday, but
he said "that was uncalled for". I was just trying to bring a smile to his day...I wanted to tell him "Get A Life!!".

The card showed the nude back side (including the butt) of a woman and
a man. Inside, it noted "Thought you might expect some cracks about your
age". <G> I agree with what Roger Rabbit said..."if you don't have a sense
of humor, you're better off dead!!".

    Have a great Xmas Holidays!

I'm normally in severe depression between mid-November and mid-January...
and it's not because I'm alone. Even when my wife was alive, we agreed that Christmas had gotten so commercial (there was stuff in the stores in July).
I kept saying "I should do my Easter shopping before Labor Day". <G>

Christmas seems empty and nihilistic to me, as if the visual forms are still present, but the substance isn't there. I tell people who ask me what to get them, to get me nothing, because the whole commercialisation of Christmas turns
it into a chore, a grind, an obligation and little more.
