I don't understand the reference, but Stas' system was on auto-pilot while he was away from home base for several weeks. But the gate started up sooner than he said it would be possible. Maybe he received some remote-human assistance.

I've seen the film, and I did enjoy it. I do understand that it, being a movie adaptation of the book.

If I hadn't seen that, not really having any familiarity with that universe or characters at all would likely been confusing, but the story was still enjoyable.

Your initial post and the phrase from the story driggered my curiosity of the film. The film seemed a bit rushed or incomplete in certain parts. Now I'm curious to fill in the gaps with the books.

I did not realize that Card wrote 6 prequels (2 trilogies) to Ender's Game several years later. It's like he's creating something similar to the "trilogies" in the Star Wars saga.

I read Foundation many many years ago. I still think about it frequently. It's only of those series that just "stuck with me." It covers such a vast amount of time and space, and is so detailed.... its a very rich set of books.
I highly recommend. If I recall correctly they also lead very perfectly into Asimov's Robot series.

I'm very exicited about the AppleTV+ series which should be coming out soon.

I have the books in paperback, I should dig them out.
