The caffeine effect lasts about 4-6 hours. So, by 11p-1a you're good to go. But don't you get up in the night more often to pee?

I know someone who gets an allergic reaction to coffee, (throat swells, heart races, face turns red) and she still will have a coffee.

So, maybe you are experiencing something similar, but your body is not manifesting as an allergic reation. Instead there is enough trauma in your body to make sleep impossible.

It might be worth investigating and finding what new magic thing you must do that will help.

There was time when I had as much during the weekdays M-F at work and wonder *why* I was getting consistent headaches Sunday mornings. These were unusual headaches that felt like they were behind my eyeballs and there was no way to assuage them. I imagined that I would have to tear out my eyeballs to get at it.

By some fluke (not planned) I started having coffee in the mornings on weekends and the headaches did not return.

I made the coffeine withdrawal connection only when I decided to ease off on that stuff too fast.

Possibly. There was awhile there when I was going a little overboard and having 3 XL Steeped Teas from Timmies.

I'd be sitting my my desk at work and suddently my watch alerts me that my heart rate has been over 120bpm while I appear to be stationary. I'd also be very hot and aparantly I looked flushed. Waaaaaayyyy too much caffeine for my system it would seem...

Now I have one medium in the morning and another at lunch & that's it. Unless it's the weekend, in which case I may live like a rock start & have a third! ;)

Yup, there was certanly as adjustment period for me when I started backing down from what seemed like gallons of steeped tea during the day at work.

Live yes.. but try not to die young like a rock star would.

I found out that my body can't tolerate too much potassium. Three bananas per day would tip me over the scale in addition to my usual foods. I would develop muscle and joint pain on about the 3rd day. But my mainly plant-based low carb high fat approach is working very well.

    coffee.

I never acquired a taste for it.

I remember all my friends in high school would drink coffee. I never really liked the taste of it, I'm more of a tea guy. (A lot of them also smoked which I never took up either).

In my early 20's I discovered 1/2 hot chocolate & 1/2 coffee or 1/2 coffee & 1/2 french vanilla from Tim Hortons. That got me on coffee and then as time went on I swicthed over to the quintessential Canadian "Double Double".

Further on down the road I dropped the sugar all together and now just order my coffee w/ 2 cream, no sugar.

"But caffeine is recognized to help alleviate migraines.
Before a headache or migraine, blood vessels tend to enlarge, but caffeine has vasoconstrictive properties that cause the blood vessels to narrow and restrict blood flow, which can aid in head pain relief."

There is a small chance of "coffee rebound" causing additional head aches, but it's usually pretty small chance, as long as you don't overdo the coffee. https://headaches.org/2019/02/24/does-caffeine-trigger-or-treat-headaches/

Helpful article, especially the mg numbers for the different coffee
brews. I have one regular (real) coffee in the morning, and the rest
of the day it's decaf (maybe 5 cups at most). I'm still committed to
get off the stuff. I've never been one of those headache suffers
reaching for coffee to minimize migraines. But a caffeine withrawal
has been brutal. 2 or even 3 ten-cup pots per day was pretty normal
at one point. I carried caffeine pills in case I missed my quota
    for the day.

I was very little when Red was on TV. My parents enjoyed him. But I thought his laughing at his own jokes deflated the potential of a joke. Nevertheless, there was good imagination and talent.

WRT Tom Mullica.. I just rewatched a vid of a card + smoking trick. It's still very entertaining to see it again.

Not a good long-term solution. You'll probably end up with a prescription for anti-liver failure.

Oh yeah! I forgot about those. Wouldn't doubt that it would mess up your physiology just a wee bit.

it was back in the days of Red Skelton, Jerry Lewis, etc...

Not too many impersonators these days. Maybe they are considered triggers for litigation?

I remember all my friends in high school would drink coffee. I never really liked the taste of it, I'm more of a tea guy. (A lot of them
also smoked which I never took up either).

I didn't have my first drink of coffee until my sophomore year in
college. I remember thinking "Hey, I could get into this..."

Junior year, I was traveling into San Francisco to a little coffee
shop that sold French and Viennese roast beans for $3.99 a pound, and
running a Braun Aromaster coffee pot for 3-4 pots a day in a group
house - and somehow it held up to the duty cycle of a small diner.

I was a computer science major, and some school resources were
constrained. I took an assembly language course that had 4 modem
ports and 4 terminals in a lab - for close to 100 students. I'd learn
to work all night, go to morning classes and crash for a couple of
hours at noon. Coffee fueled that.

    Always black.

Fast forward to today, and my morning routine, as it's been since
1991, is having a cup of coffee before the house wakes up, and
    reading a QWK packet.

You can, sort of. Aren't caffeine pills available as non-prescription? You get the caffeine without the fuss and bother drinking anything.

Coffee drinkers can probably recall their 1st time. Mine was as a summer high-school student (last graduating year before university) working part-time at the local post office. It was also my introduction to union rules: forced breaks! I would have rather finished sorting a pile of mail than sit idle for 30 minutes twice a day. But I was chastised for working while the other workers were taking breaks (smoking and drinking coffee).

To fill the time, I joined the group with my first introduction to coffee. They didn't have real cream (only the powdered stuff) and only instant coffee. My mixes always turned out lumpy most of the time when using the powdered creamer. Everyone always had a laugh. I think they had bets going on when I would finally learn to make it right.

    Dan,

I had to look him up, and found a few videos on youtube of his shows.
It looks like he was spot-on with his performance of Red.

This was long before COVID-19, and like the other shows in Branson, you
were lucky to be able to get tickets to a show.

It's a shame that comedy today isn't even close to the same level as it was back in the days of Red Skelton, Jerry Lewis, etc...

There was another show, "An Evening With Groucho", where the guy made it
look like Groucho had come back from the dead.

My late father and I went to see the show, and he wanted a seat in the
front row. I told him "If we get in the front row, he's going to give us
    grief all night long".

Sure enough, on opening night, there was a bald man in the front row,
and he rubbed the guy's head...saying "I'm Groucho Marx. This is Karl Marx. Sorry about the Revolution, Old Man". <G>

He was doing a song about Lydia the tattooed lady, and this heavy set
woman in the front row was just beside herself in laughter. He asked her
what her name was...and when she said "Lydia", it brought the house down
in laughter, and he nearly fell off the stage!! <BG>.

    August,

I was very little when Red was on TV. My parents enjoyed him. But I thought his laughing at his own jokes deflated the potential of a joke.
Nevertheless, there was good imagination and talent.

Unlike comedians like George Burns, Jack Benny, and Bob Hope, Red could
not get through a joke without breaking down. <G>

WRT Tom Mullica.. I just rewatched a vid of a card + smoking trick.
It's still very entertaining to see it again.

I'll have to look for that one.

However, Benny Hill was pretty darn good too!

One night on the former "Nashville Network" (TNN), there was a show
called "Nashville Now", and Ralph Emery was hosting. One of the performers
did "Yakety Sax", and there were visitors there from the UK. He asked one
of the ladies if she knew the name of tune, and she replied "Benny Hill"!!
It brought the house down in laughter!! <BG>

    August,

    1) Working too long in front of the computer.

    Dehydration?

That normally happens if I forget to bring a can of flavored water
in, before I do my ham radio traffic nets. As Net Control, I do quite
a bit of talking, and can dry out fast.

    2) Taking too many pain medications (the strongest I take is a 400 mg Ibuprofen, and I don't do that every day).

Not a good long-term solution. You'll probably end up with a
    prescription for anti-liver failure.

The main pain meds I have are Tylenol Caplets, and 400 mg Ibuprofen.
And, I don't take them every day...maybe once a week, and only as needed.

    3) A combination of a severe concussion and 2 lightning strikes over
    the years.

Oh yeah! I forgot about those. Wouldn't doubt that it would mess up
your physiology just a wee bit.

However, I carry no electrical charge, and can be handled safely. <BG>

But, they did do an EMG and nerve conductivity test, to be sure there
wasn't multiple sclerosis or something like that.

I'm duplicating my old DOS environment and running MultiMail in
vDOS (similar to DOSBOX). That way, I can use Qedit and VDE, two old
dos text editors I've used for years.
