    Parent's should be treating the kid's access to a phone's resources the same way a user would be managed on a bbs by a sysop. If the kid
    messes with the device and tries to thwart established parental
    controls, then "no smartphone for you!" Then if a phone is an absolute requirement for being contactable, only provide a device that is just a phone.

    I heard of one case where the kid was caught accessing porn, etc.
    So, the parents blocked his access to the home wi-fi. That didn't
    deter the kid...he hacked into the neighbors system.
