    Hi All...

Someone just walked into the shop with a "pet" black squirrel. 3 months old as a lone baby.

It was a reluctant rescue apparently. The squirrel just warmed up to him and stuck with him.

I was a little taken aback at first when the guy said, "hey.. wanna see my pet squirrel?" you know.. and he was reaching for his pants. But the baby was nestling just fine in the connected open-ended pockets of his hoodie.

    Ciao!

I *did* suggest the doesn't just arbitrarily ask strange old men, "hey.. wanna see my pet squirrel?" When he laughed, his squirrel popped out for another presentation.

I guess these days you don't know what to expect from people,eh?

Of course, all our pet species were once reluctant rescues, eh?

Squirrels seem cool, but I think you'd get the same cuteness & lithe bodies from a pet rat. . . but the rat is more trainable to be comfortable being handled. .

My wife called our son's his "weasel". . . Before we taught him the anatomical terms. . .

The danger in teaching cutesy nicknames for one's birth righted 'toy' is when a kid tells his teacher, "the gym teacher was rubbing my squirrel" his class teacher might think nothing of another teacher touching a kid's plush toy he brought to school that day, when it's actually evidence of a far more sinister occurrence. . . :P
