Hello All,

Today marked "day 1" of the beginning of the lifting of the
"stay at home" order in Ontario. Being in a tourist town that
serves as a gateway to cottage destinations, *and* being a
Friday, my town was jam-packed with vehicles pouring through
all day.

I operate a small bookshop along the main street. After
several months of just languishing at the shop and just waiting
for closing time in the months prior, today seemed like the
first day I had to actually do any work, such as being civil to
strangers.

What I found most interesting though.. is that many of those
strangers were not wearing masks. I did not mind that myself;
legally I cannot extricate/remove someone if they choose to not
wear a mask, and still want to browse or purchase something.
But it is interesting that most people are treating this "day
1" as a kind of "covid days are over" thing and there is a
general sense of freedom regained.

Some. Friday (day 1), saw more people but fewer books per
person. Today (day 2), saw fewer people but more books per
person and double the sales than yesterday.

Today (Saturday) saw almost everyone wearing a mask. Perhaps
some education of the matter reached those people. None the
less, it is not my duty to evict non-maskers. As long as
people are not coughing/sneezing I doubt there is much to worry
about. They can help themselves to the hand sanitizer at the
front of the store. Heck, it's summer.. people are happy and
healthy.

The effectivity of those none medical masks is highly doubtfull anyway. We had no mask obligation all through the first wave. We only started wearing masks somewhere in the autumn of last year.

They can help themselves to the hand sanitizer at the front of the
store. Heck, it's summer.. people are happy and healthy.

I hope it stays that way!
