Not necessarily. There seems to be a pandemic of sorts with this thing:

The Man Who Married His Pony (1992)
The Millionaire Woman Who Married a Dolphin (2005)
The Indian Man Who Married a Dog to Get Rid of a Curse (2007)
The German Man Who Married His Asthmatic Cat (2010)
The 9-Year-Old Indian Girl Who Married a Stray Dog to Ward off Evil Spirits (2003)
The Sudanese Man Who Married a Goat (2006)
The Australian Young Man Who Married His Labrador (2010)
The 75-year-old Nepalese Man Who Married a Dog for Luck (2004)
The 7-Year-Old Tribal Indian Girls Who Married Two Frogs (2009)
The Ghanaian Woman Who Married Her Dog (2009)
Fashion Designer Karl Lagerfeld Who Wants to Marry His Cat (2013)

I remember reading about another man who married some kind of inanimate object.

    But pretty sad really...

VERY. I'm surprised that this sort of thing is even allowed. So, the mental issue to do this is not just limited to just the person who wants to marry, but the people who empower it. Very creepy.

You're well informed about the weird! ;)

    But pretty sad really...

VERY. I'm surprised that this sort of thing is even allowed.

I very much doubt it's a legal marriage...

Yeah.. well, it kinda finds me, I guess. I don't look for this stuff on regular basis.

In a way, when I hear of things like that, it makes me feel much less crazy than I think I am.

True.. Some of those arrangements can be just initial attempts, but invalidated later on.
