Freight carrier Atlas Air has ordered four more 747-8 Freighters, with delivery scheduled between May and October 2022. These are the last 747s to be built by Boeing before production of this iconic aircraft type ends.

According to Atlas Air, the choice for the Jumbo jet is logical. The 747-8F is the best and most versatile wide-body cargo plane on the market, said John W. Dietrich. His airline already flies ten 747-8s and also has a large fleet of 747-400s.

So while Atlas Air loves it, that's not enough to save the Jumbo's production. Boeing announced this summer that it will end in 2022. The last passenger 747 rolled off the production line in 2017, since then only the freight version has been built.
