From Brian Klauss@1:104/116 to All on Wed Jan 27 08:28:05 2021
    Good day!

iOS 14.4, iPadOS 14.4, watchOS 7.3, and tvOS 14.4 was released yesterday. It addresses the following:

iOS 14.4 includes the following improvements for your iPhone:

Smaller QR codes can be recognized by Camera
Option to classify Bluetooth device type in Settings for correct identification of headphones for audio notifications
Notifications for when the camera on your iPhone is unable to be verified as a new, genuine Apple camera in iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max

This release also fixes the following issues:

Image artifacts could appear in HDR photos taken with iPhone 12 Pro
Fitness widget may not display updated Activity data
Typing may be delayed and word suggestions may not appear in the keyboard
The keyboard may not come up in the correct language in Messages
Audio stories from the News app in CarPlay may not resume after being paused for spoken directions or Siri
Enabling Switch Control in Accessibility may prevent phone calls from being answered from the Lock Screen

Please update your devices as soon as possible.

I don't know what it is, but Apple Mail on Iphone with 14.4 and some prior versions just doesn't juggle new messages properly with two Exchange Activesync accounts. You must jump back to "All mailboxes" to see them no matter if you're in an applicable Inbox folder.

Seconded. For me I find them easier and a bit less "techie" than Android.

    OK, I'll bite.

So do I. [Find Apple products to be rock solid.]
I use Apple for my 'pretty' hardware. I use an iPhone because its the best cell phone device. [Which IS, however, quickly changing for many reasons.] I use a 27" iMac for working with video and audio. And, I'm going to buy the new M1 because it is freaking awesome.

However, even though back in the day Apple was still a closed-environment, Apple used to attempt to serve their customers.

More and more Apple is trying to force their customers to buy the newest products, not repair their perfectly fine hardware and own them.

Thats why I made the statement concerning the camera 'feature'. Its not a feature, its horrible. The only reason they do this is so that you'll be a good Apple customer and buy the newest iPhone as opposed to replacing the camera.

It sucks. Once a Linux option is good enough to be a daily driver, I'm jumping off the cell phone devices. And I may choose Android over Apple, even today; with Tmux and other software allowing me to run a full Android environment makes it a better choice of ME. I appreciate you wanting to have the current Apple products; they are great - but they certainly control their customers today, much more than they've done historically.

I like Apple for a phone, they "just work". I do keep an Android running for those things I can't do on the Apple (mostly some ham radio apps).

More and more Apple is trying to force their customers to buy the newest products, not repair their
perfectly fine hardware and own them.

I'm not so sure. Many of these compatability warnings are due to the fact that the hardware components are heavily tied to the security protections of the device. For example, a 3rd party touch ID sensor could contain hardware components that could compromise the security of the device, and thus it won't be allowed to unlock the phone.

I would imagine as the camera hardware becomes more complicated (have you seen the camera package of a iphone 12 Pro?) Apple will not allow 3rd party replacement components because of compatibility, security or quality issues.

These warnings are there to assure the integrity of your device and data. Not to prevent repair.
