Maybe thats part of the "problem"? Fidonet or retrocomputing at the whole
is a hobby like collecting and taking care about other old stuff like
oldtimers or so.
For me itīs part of our culture we should conserve. Youīll need to find
other people being interested in this conserving thing. I donīt think that
you can convince people that Fidonet is a great communication platform.
And as with other strange hobbies you need to actively advertise this one
as well. Sitting around and waiting for new enthusiasts wonīt work in the
long run.
Maybe an add in your local newspaper or on Craigslist could help...
