• is eternal september down

From faeychild@2:250/1 to All on Sat Dec 21 21:23:52 2019

Well obviously not now... I'm posting

But for several days I have had no connection, which raises the old
problem is it me or them

Doubts are raised because I could ping the site.

https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com said that eternal september was
    down, which exonerated my setup.

Even though their website was up??

But today eternal september is up.

    https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com still says it's down.

Are you all mad or is it me. Is there another useless tool that can tell
    me that :-)

    regards

Not without the app attempting to connect.

Since I use slrn for my Usenet reader it gives me an informative failure message

    Possible protocol error

    Run-Time Error
    error:1408F10B:SSL routines:ssl3_get_record:wrong version number

    SSL_connect failed

    slrn fatal error:

feaychild, I use E-S for my UseNet browsing/posting and I've not
experienced any problems with them for some time.

Do E-S use distributed Servers, allowing for a particular server to be
down, effecting you, but we, who connect to other servers, see no problems??

Or should I have typed "I *normally* use E-S for my UseNet
    browsing/posting ..."?

I'm currently dog-sitting for my sister's family, so making use of their Wi-Fi!!

I have been temporarily unable to connect to eternal-september two or
three times in the past two or three weeks. A few hours later or the
next morning it would be back.

    Cheers!

No problems here, though I only check in now and then. It could easily
be that they were down at the times when I didn't try to use it.

I'm the same, usually only connecting to E-S during the evenings here in
    East Australia.

For all I know, the E-S servers might all be dead for the other eighteen hours, or parts there of! ;-)

The test site still says it's down.
    Ping says it's up

    news eternal is working

Which is a 50% hit rate regarding reliable tools.
Nothing is ever guaranteed, I suppose.

Ignoring death and taxes, of course.

    Run many tests

The test site you provide tells me that eternal-september.org is down,
too. Yet Firefox has no problem connecting and showing the home page.

I suggest you re-evaluate the reliability of your tools.
