After the last update I found Thunderbird demands Username and password
    after opening.

    Has anyone else experienced this

Not me. 102.3.0 is installed on 3 machines without any such demand.

I have had for for some versions over the last year, it is a extra security layer for a file holding passwords used for your email addresses at a
guess. -- Assuming this is a wee box that appears the first time after
loading thunderbird and before it starts.

I do have three email addresses that are used within that needs to pick up posts etc.

Yet another feature that no one asked for, along with the loss of the
function that allows you to pick up local mails from your mbox mail system!

    The "Primary Password"?

Thunderbird has chosen to no longer use gpg for enigmail, which is now built directly into thunderbird instead of being a plugin.

It still can import gpg keys, but uses it's openpgp instead of gpg. The primary password is used to encrypt the thunderbird openpgp key ring.

They've chosen to reduce security to make use of encrypted email slightly easier.
Instead of asking for the passphrase every time an outgoing message is signed, or
a received message is decrypted, it requests and caches the pass phrase at startup.
It also no longer uses the web of trust.

If you leave your desk with thunderbird running, anyone else using it can decrypt
messages sent to you, or sign new messages they create, using your id.

I haven't checked to see if there is a way to disable it. If there is, it's likely either by deleting the key (Tools/OpenPGP Key Manager), or in the config editor aka Advanced Preferences (Edit/Settings/Config Editor). In the config editor, try changing mail.identity.id1.enablePgp to false. Same for all identities
    listed in the config editor.

    Regards, Dave Hodgins

That feature is not broke on mga8 as I have set up my neighbor to show/receive any
email to his account and have all root email routed to his local linux user account.

I suggest deleting your local account and re-create it.
I assume you have the correct perms in /var/mail/$USER Example:

    $ ls -al /var/mail/$USER
    -rw------- 1 bittwister mail 0 Sep 28 14:05 /var/mail/bittwister

The version number I should have included 102.3.0 (64-bit)

And maybe reading the release notes mentioned there also

So it is a "change" in parameters and not my fault :-)

next time I'll check then password manager checkbox and see what happens

    regards
