• dmesg error utf8

From faeychild@2:250/1 to All on Wed May 18 01:41:41 2022

I am getting a dmesg error

    6.658000] FAT-fs (nvme0n1p1): utf8 is not a recommended IO charset
for FAT filesystems, filesystem will be case sensitive!

A bit of googling suggests that it is of no concern
The partition is /boot/EFI and contains a binary file "grubx64.efi "

    lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
    sda 8:0 0 5.5T 0 disk
    └─sda1 8:1 0 5.5T 0 part /video
    sr0 11:0 1 1024M 0 rom
    nvme0n1 259:0 0 119.2G 0 disk
    ├─nvme0n1p1 259:1 0 299M 0 part /boot/EFI
    ├─nvme0n1p2 259:2 0 22.3G 0 part
    ├─nvme0n1p3 259:3 0 10.6G 0 part [SWAP]

    Should I be concerned?

Only if You're using that file system with windows 95, or earlier on the same system as dos based systems didn't support lower case file or directory names.

IIRC that was added in windows 98.

    No Dave, It's Linux only

    Thanks

I have seen that error message many times, using Mageia 8 and Windows
    10. It has never been a problem. That agrees with what Dave says.
