• Can I stop LibreOffice from opening for particular File types??

From Daniel65@2:250/1 to All on Mon Oct 25 10:57:46 2021
I realise this is not a Mageia Question as such, but as LibreOffice
comes bundled with Mageia, I thought I'd ask here before going looking
for a LibreOffice newsgroup. Or am I wanting/needing to change a Mageia
    system setting??

When I double click on a ".txt" file, LibreOffice opens up for me with
my file in focus. It's just a simple Text file, so I don't need a full
blown Wordprocessor opening up for me, so how can I stop LibreOffice
opening, but get a simple program like kWrite to open, instead??

    TIA

Right click on your .txt file, then click on Properties. There you can
choose with which editor you open a txt file.

Assuming KDE Plasma, open up System Settings and navigate to
Personalization, and then Applications. Under the first section, "File Associations", you can select which application to open by default for filenames endeing in .txt.

Since you mention Kwrite, I'll assume you are using Plasma:

    I do it this way:

    1. Right click on the file name.
    2. Go to "Open with" and choose "Other application" even if the
application you want to use is there.
    3. Use the menu to choose the application you want to use
    4. check the box that says "Remember this application for all..."
    5. Click on OK.

The system will re-assign so that .txt files open in that application by default from then on.

    Thank you for responding, Marc.

Would that selection then be applicable EVERY TIME I opened that file
and EVERY TIME I open any txt file??

That is what I was just about to suggest. The same change works in
Windows, except that Windows would change the file-type icon. Linux
    probably does the same.
