The Mageia 8 rc iso images have now been released, are on the tier 1 mirrors now,
    and torrents are running.
    https://www.mageia.org/en-gb/downloads/prerelease/

The more people who use it, the more chance we have of finding and fixing any bugs that haven't been encountered during qa iso testing. Please do check https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_8_Errata for currently known bugs and
    where available, the workarounds.

Speaking from Mageia 8 testing this week, I highly recommend older
Radeon video card users need to test. Watching the Dev Mailing list
suggest everyone should at least try the Live ios if you are not setup
    for testing.

I did an update and lost my X11 server and it took a subject matter expert
to tell me what change needed to be made tp /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

Plan to do another MGA8 clean install to see if it works sometime soon.

In particular we are looking for input from users of AMD Radeon
"Southern Islands" and "Sea Islands" gpus. Those gpus are supposed to be supported by both the older ati driver and the newer amdgpu driver.

Before now, the default driver has been ati, but upstream development of
that driver has ceased and some of those gpus have shown problems with
it and Mageia 8. We are trying to switch those gpus to the
    still-supported amdgpu driver.

Older gpus, the ones not supported by amdgpu, have not, so far, shown
    any problems.

But, we need help from our users. There are only a few of these affected
gpus available to QA, and so far they have worked with the amdgpu
driver, but there are too few to be as sure of it as we'd like to be.
Input, positive or negative, would be most welcome.

And Mageia is up on Distrowatch.com
from which I am presently torrenting it.
It will be run in Virtual Box if there is
    any justice.

Prior to the update, /etc/X11/xorg.conf Driver was ati
The fix was change it from ati to amdgpu

    # grep Driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Driver "amdgpu"

Hopefully the latest upgrade software will make the change for you.

I will be doing a clean install for the next test shot which may not
    test the update logic/software.

Ah, you have one of the affected cards. A clean install from the RC
should make the proper change for you, but at the time of the RC release
the upgrade scripts for that weren't quite ready yet.

The developers wanted feedback to determine if there were any of these
cards that don't work with the amdgpu driver. Assuming they don't run
into that trouble, the upgrade script should be ready for the Official release.

That's the plan, but of course you know what they say about "the best
laid plans of Mice and Men..."

I used the torrent link from Mageia's own download page. I just had a
second look on Distrowatch.com's torrent page. I didn't realize that
the list was so long. I couldn't find Mageia on it, even with my
    browser's page search, but DW considers that Mageia is now less popular;
that would be a good enough reason. I did see that DW has Mageia listed
    among its weekly new releases.
