I am getting very unreliable. The DVDs are of course 2.66 GiB, not MiB.
They are called i586; I hope that the suffix doesn't mean that they
    are 32-bit.

They are on all of the mirrors, or will be soon. For example ... https://mirror.math.princeton.edu/pub/mageia/iso/cauldron/mageia8-beta1/

The i586 is the 32 bit classical installer. There's also a 32 bit live xfce iso.
The x86_64 is the 64 bit classical installer and there are 64 bit live versions
of Gnome, KDE Plasma, and Xfce. The torrent files are available on those mirrors
    too.

I thought that Mageia had dropped support for 32-bit. The jump straight
from Alpha 1 to Beta 1 just shows how solid Mga 8 is. Mageia has always
been that way, even from the initial release.

But the Web site is still offering the Alpha! I am trying not to
download from LinuxTracker, because my account there is VERY unbalanced.
An app for Android would not permit leeching only.

There were some brief discussions a couple of years ago about the possibility of
dropping 32 bit support, but the decision was made to continue support, until there is a technical reason as to why it can not be continued, or a future council decision changes that.

Occasionally some one will suggest it again on various mailing lists, or forums,
etc., but those discussions have had no impact on the council decision.

That said, some of the packages Mageia provides are not expected to work on a 32
bit system. In those cases, the 32 bit packages are built and released along side
of the 64 bit packages, but we know they are unlikely to work.

For example, virtualbox is available in the Core 32bit Release repository, but it
is not tested, or expected to work on a 32 bit install. It might work, but if it
does, would be too limited to be of any practical use. The build system and the
system for approving updates are both set up to support both arches, and it would
require extra work to exclude some packages from one of the arches.

    https://www.mageia.org/en-gb/downloads/prerelease/ is showing beta1.

The linuxtracker project is not connected to Mageia. I have no idea who added Mageia to their list, or who will get them to change from alpha1 to beta1.

Why not use the torrent files from Mageia? Currently ktorrent is showing 15 seeders on 4 of the iso images, and 17 on the other 2. I and many of the other Mageia seeders have set up our torrent client to allow leaching.

Either that, or download the iso directly from one of the mirrors.
