• File system selection in the installer

The Mageia installer is beautiful and easy to use for simple installation. I've done dozens of installations. This time I wanted to
change the file system and things went terribly wrong. after choosing
the file system the system froze and I lost the partitioning of an
    external disk that was connected.

Welcome to Mageia. I find the install screen pretty easy to use even on
    a complex install.

When you have problems, it helps to information about what is being
    used, commands and results.

In your case it would have been nice to have which iso used. Examples: Mageia-7.1-Live-Xfce-x86_64.iso
    Mageia-Cauldron-netinstall-nonfree-x86_64.iso

I can only guess you picked use existing partitions for install.

Since I have several installs, I always pick Custom in the partition
phase and pick where I want what used/mounted.

Exactly what was being done must be detailed to identify and either solve
the problem, or recommend a work around.
