• Printing from Mga7 device

I am having trouble printing to a Sagam 6020 printer from Mageia 7
(uptodate) I got the Sagem/Philips ppd file and other filters from the
Philips site, and installed them, both the PCL version and the raster
version. (I used the fedora files)

I have cups running in debug mode and having th messages dumped to /var/log/cups/error_log ( and access_log and page_log0 that than to
    systemd journal.

The evidence is that the stuff is being put through all the cups
filters and sent to the printer. In the case of the PCL version of the ppd/filters, the printer shows the "wait" message. In the case of the
raster, it is not showing anything.

The only suspicious thing I see in the error_log is
D [03/Jul/2020:01:20:20 +0100] [Job 21] Waiting for read thread to exit...
D [03/Jul/2020:01:20:27 +0100] [Job 21] Read thread still active, aborting the pending read...
    D [03/Jul/2020:01:20:28 +0100] [Job 21] PID 13822 (/usr/lib/cups/backend/usb) exited with no errors.

from that last line, it wouldseem that the print job was sent. But
    nothing was printed out.
Using the scaner as a copier, the printer prints so it is not a hardware problem.

What could be going wrong and how can I debug it? It almost seems that
no "print page" command is being sent to the printer.

Is there any way of sniffing the usb connection to make sure data is
    being sent to the printer?

Wireshark can capture USB traffic. A dedicated product is USB Analyzer
    from www.eltima.com.

It might be quicker to send that description to the manufacturer.
Brotther have always been prompt with replies.

    HTH,

    Doug.

This is Philips/Sagem not Brother. And the printer/scanner is about 15
    years old.
