    Some observations problem very subjective

BUT!! it does seem that since I restored the nvidia driver over the
    nouveau driver

During video rendering I think that the CPU load has diminished by 8 to 10%

The CPU core temperatures are lower by about 5 to 6 degrees and the CPU intensive Plasmashell program has totally disappeared off the Htop list.

these are just on the fly observations

And the minor flashing flickering and font corruption has gone. :-)

Just an illustration of the age-old problem of manufacturers withholding
some of the information necessary for a proper FOSS driver to be created.

Some are better than others. That's why I've dumped my old nvidia card
in favor of one from AMD, or I use the on-board video provided by my
    Intel motherboard or processor.

    They "just work."

    +1

I had also always been a fan of nVidia, but now I just go for onboard
graphics, and a large percentage of the problems we're seeing from
newbies at the Manjaro forum are all to do with nVidia.

This machine here has onboard Intel graphics, and my previous one =E2=80=94 which was refurbished box =E2=80=94 had onboard AMD graphics. My laptop al=
    so
has onboard Intel graphics. Unless you're a gamer or you're into
heavy-duty professional graphics rendering, the integrated graphics
do an excellent job, and you don't have to mess with any proprietary
    drivers.

I have always run the nvidia driver back when it had to be installed
manually from run level 3 and required the kernel headers and sometimes
fell over and was a PITA.

I have no idea when the nouveau drive sneaked in but it has just been
    booted out

So you and Aragorn both have unassailable points.
If you don't game, you don't need that performance.

And the onboard chip comes out the least expensive.

Hard to argue with that one.

But I am saddled with the graphics card so I use it
    Maybe the next box????

    regards

Assuming this is a desktop and the nvidia card is removable, you are not "saddled" with the card if you don't want to be. There's a bit of bother
to it, but it can be replaced with another brand. For me, it was less
bother to do that once and be done than to continue to battle with
    nvidia's dictates.

As for expense, I picked up a couple of perfectly adequate AMD HD8490
cards on eBay for $15US each. Lots of other good choices there, pulled
from working systems by recyclers. What you might need depends, of
course, on what you're doing with it.
