So when I drive from Finland 'to' Gibraltar I never enter the UK.

I don't know what you're trying to say. You do not enter
the UK, because Gibraltar is not part of the UK, however it

Gibraltar is part of the UK. Look it up.

In the early 70s when I lived in England, I had wanted to visit
Gibraltar as a home base for touring Spain by rented auto. I discovered
that, at that time, such travel was impossible because Spain had closed
the border -- because of some dispute they were having with the UK.

You need to correct some Wikipedia articles, then:

Why would I do that (nor do I know how to do that). I see nothing wrong
with the articles I have seen, nor what you quote, nor what I said.

The fourteen British Overseas Territories are: [...]; Gibraltar; [...]

So -- as you say, Gibraltar is a territory of the UK, i.e. it is part of
    the UK.

The government of Gibraltar has actively worked to have
Gibraltar removed from the list,[60] and in 2008 the
British government declared Gibraltar's continued presence

That may be, but is also considerably later than the time I was talking
about from my personal experience in the early 1970's. If Gibraltar
wants to become independent -- so be it, but what you quote implies that
    has not yet happened.

And you also need to get rid of the fake TLD .gi where
someone seems to spend all his spare time on making up fake
    laws:

I have no idea what you are talking about there. I have no knowledge of
    a fake TLD .gi.

It's a 'territory.' As are Samoa and the Mariana Islands and a couple
    of Caribbean islands.

Hawaii used to be a territory until it was granted statehood in 1959.
Hawaii was in independent kingdom until the US illegally conquered and
annexed it in 1898 because the Hawaiian government wouldn't let the US
navy build a base at the mouth of the Pearl River (said base is now
known as Pearl Harbor). That's pretty much what Putin did to Crimea a

It's not a d‚partement and therefore not part of the EU. And it's part of North Amrica, not Europe.

Hmmm ... the official currency is the Euro and in July non-stop flights to Paris CDG are started.

I think I can even go there without a passport as it seems Schengen rules apply.

French Guiana is part of the EU, though.

    How about Mururoa ? Martinique?

    So what?
Montenegro and Kosovo both replaced the Dinar with Deutsche Mark and later on also changed to Euro without being in the European Currency Union.

I think I can even go there without a passport as it seems Schengen
    rules apply.

They don't. I don't know if you need a passport, though. AFAIR I've never had one, my German ID card was suffiecent for Turkey and even the CSSR.

French Guiana is part of the EU, though.
    How about Mururoa ? Martinique?

For details, read this in your favourite language: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:12012E/TXT

Or if you're good at geography, grab a Euro bank note and look at the shape of the islands. However, you might want to use a 500 Euro note, they're too small on the other ones. :-)
