• FileMgr rescan for past few days

From Nick Young@2:250/7 to All on Tue Mar 9 03:08:02 2021
    Hi,

Sorry if this isn't the right echo.
Not sure if this is a general thing for all other-nets but I was told that %rescan couldn't be done
for FileFix/Mgr as it would prevent pollers from downloading several Gigabytes of data from the hub - is this something that can be done on FidoNet? I would like to download all files from the past ~30 days or so.

This is possible but it depends on what software and setup your link is using. Not all filefix's support %resend.

My filefix does support %resend but we would need to link in order for you to use it. Netmail me if you would like to do that.

You can also log into the BBS (even as guest) and download whatever you like, or browse and download from the ftp site. I even have a gopher site where you can download anything in there.. :)

    correct...

is this something that can be done on FidoNet?

no... rescans are simply not an option with TIC processors...

I would like to download all files from the past ~30 days or so.

you have to go get them manually and then import them into your system...

ummm... resend is not the same as rescan ;)

No it isn't. But %resend is an option for some filefix's. Mine in htick supports it, and I think Allfix supports %resend also.

It will resend a file that you missed (or lost somehow) along with a tic.

    No it isn't.

excellent... we're on the same page ;)

true but you have to know the name of the file you want to request to be re-sent... unlike %rescan which just sends everything from a certain point in time...

Mine in htick supports it, and I think Allfix supports
    %resend also.

    it does...

    %RESEND [fileecho]:[filename]
To request that ALLFIX resend a certain file in a
specific fileecho. Wildcards may be used.

Yes, %resend is a one at a time project.

    %RESEND [fileecho]:[filename]

Htick does it differently, to keep things interesting I guess.. ;)

    %RESEND <file> <filearea>

send %HELP to your uplink's FileFix and you'll get the syntax how
    it can be done.

    So:

    %RESEND [fileecho]:*.*

Would have the effect of resending all files that the uplink has stored for [fileecho], similar to a %RESCAN?

maybe... depends on the system settings... i don't recall if there's a limit that can be set, though... either a size limit or an age limit... it has been too long and i don't run AF any more...
