• Railroad Empires door game problem

From acn@VERT/IMZADI to All on Tue Mar 2 15:25:20 2021
    Hi,

I'm trying some door games and came along "Railroad Empires 2" (http://bbsfiles.com/ftp/ExDx/).

My setup is: Synchronet 3.18b on Linux with dosemu.
    In dosemu, I've installed PC-DOS 7.
Im using this setup for some more games and did not notice problems until now.

The game starts, but after the second welcome screen, it just quits...?!
I don't see any message why it quits.
This also happens in local mode (running RRX2GAME /L in dosemu).

Does anyone else have this game running?
At least to try it :)

    Thank you very much!

    Regards,
    Anna

I just downloaded and installed to try and reproduce the issue, sadly it seems to be working for me. I'm on SBBS v3.16c running on Win10 32bit currently. My setup is as follows:

I didn't make any changes to the games RRX2.CTL file. What's odd is the game starts, shows some ANSI and then drops you back to the BBS.

    -----------------------------------------------
    Name Railroad Empires
    Internal Code RR2
    Start-up Directory ..\xtrn\rr2
    Command Line RRX2GAME /Pd:\sbbs\node%#

    Multiple Concurrent Users Yes
    Intercept I/O No
    Native Executable No
    Use Shell to Execute No
    Modify User Data No
    Execute on Event No

BBS Drop File Type GAP DOOR.SYS

see if you have to add a switch for fossil.
    and try using dorinfo1.def instead

The door still works for me with Dorinfo1.def used and fossil w/ or w/out. Dbl check the RRX2.CTL file for BBSTYPE QUICK amd fossil switches.

Also in sysconfig not sure if using real names or not will play a part. I told my sync door file setup to no real names and no lower case file names.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your answers.

I've tried switching to BBSTYPE QUICK and DORINFOx.DEF, but the result is the same.

    My settings in scfg are:

    ========================================
    Name Railroad Empires 2
    Internal Code RRX2
    Start-up Directory ../dos/apps/rrx
    Command Line rrx2game /PD:\ /N%#
    Clean-up Command Line
    Execution Cost None
    Access Requirements
    Execution Requirements
    Multiple Concurrent Users Yes
    Intercept I/O No
    Native Executable No
Use Shell / New Context No
    Modify User Data No
    Execute on Event No
    Pause After Execution No
BBS Drop File Type RBBS/QuickBBS DORINFO#.DEF
Place Drop File In Node Directory ========================================

in RRX2.CTL, the settings are (all lines without ; at the beginning):

    ========================================
    SYSOPFIRST FREE
    SYSOPLAST COPY
    BBSNAME BBSFiles.com
    BBSTYPE QUICK
    FOSSIL
    PAUSECODE @PAUSE@
    ========================================

I'm using the dosemu FOSSIL.COM, and have set BUFFERS=40 and FILES=60, as the README for this game says that more are needed...?!

After this screen, it quits silently:

    Ûßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßß
    ßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßßß

Press any key to continue . . .

@xbit: Is your BBS up again so I could test the game in your BBS? Thank you!

@xbit: Is your BBS up again so I could test the game in your BBS? Thank you!

My BBS is on a win10 32bit OS at the moment. So sadly, I'm not sure I'm the best person to test with :( Also, I've yet to open the BBS back up to the public. I may later in the summer but for now I'm just getting things working and looking into a possible port to Sync on *nix.

    Hi,

    so it works now?

Not on my system, I still don't know what the problem is.
I will test it again soon, but at the moment I don't have the time for more intense tests.

    Regards,
    Anna
