From Bucko@39:902/519 to All on Thu May 31 09:22:51 2018
Any Excelsior! SysOp's out there? I ran it back in the mid 90's for a few
years and had some fun with it.. I am going to be setting one up again in a
few months on a Emulator and running it on the same hardware I am currently running my PC BBS.. Anyone do something like that?? Any suggestions?

I would love to see an Excelsior! BBS. The website that carries so much of the software has nothing but dead links and the maintainer never responded to my email back when I was considering running an E! board. You may be able to put everything together that you need from Aminet however. If you do I'll definitely come check it out!

I will let you know when I start doing it.. Right now I am finishing up the
BBS I am running. I have the E! Software already, trying to find my original keyfile instead of using the PD Release one, then it will only be figuring
out the telnet side of things to get calls in.. We'll see how it goes..

One other note, E! is basically a C-Net rip off.. It looks and runs just like it..

    Hi Anachronist!

    Hey man!

I see the last line full of garbage.
    Is that intentional?

It's not full of garbage, what you're seeing are Amiga MCI codes, specifially ones for CNET. They are our equivalent of pipe color codes. On an Amiga CNET board and some others you would instead see a colored version of my signature. One of the fellows in ArakNet are about to add support to some BBS software packages for them so that soon you may be able to see them like we do :) n1c6aceNACHRONc6iceST cd| c2acaBSc2icaNTHE BBSc6

MCI codes in pure ASCII do not look so good ;)

They really don't! NuSkooler is working on adding translation to his Enigma software, and I'm discussing adding translation support to CNET with the maintainer. So in the future it will hopefully look great! n1c6aceNACHRONc6iceST cd| c2acaBSc2icaNTHE BBSc6

I am running Excelsior! again after being away since 1996. I am trying to get Fidonet going with it but having some difficulty. Amibinkd is working fine for polling and receiving echos and netmail but Xmail is not picking up my outgoing messages to echos for some reason. Outgoing netmail is going out fine. I
If you'd like to see it in action feel free to telnet to ciaamigabbs.dynu.net:6400

I am still setting things up. Hope to see it active again with some regular callers.

Hi Tim, I am about to embark on running E! again after a lay off of about the same time as you.. I will be attempting to run it via UAE on a PC. I have 1 quick question for you, was it difficult to get it running with Telnet? I haven't layed out my plans yet on how I am going to get it running , just downloading the software that will be needed and hints and tips.. Any info
you can give me would be appreciated...

Hi Bucko, wasn't hard at all. As a matter of fact I found a file with some pdfs showing exactly with screen shots how to set it up. Give my BBS a call and it's in the file areas along with some other Excelsior stuff. ciaamigabbs.dynu.net:6400

Drop me a message to let me know you've checked in and also when you get your board set up. If you've got any questions leave them on the board for me and i'll get back to you pretty quickly as i check it several times a day.
