• Getting Excelsior BBS back into FidoNet and AmigaNet

From Tim Grooms@39:902/505 to All on Tue Apr 24 20:33:49 2018
    Hi all,
I have just set my Excelsior BBS back up via telnet on my A1200 after having been down since 1996. I carried both Fidonet and Amiganet echoes back then. I am wanting to set this up again but no longer have a landline, I am strictly using telnet only. \

Cam anyone help direct me what software I should use to get Fidonet/AmigaNet going again with Excelsior?

    Thanks,
    Tim

Don't know anything about Excelsior but you can either go with Binkd on your Amiga and suffer a bit since it will crash frequently or you can try to find a hub to poll from that supports IEMSI and use Trapdoor.

I run Binkd on a Linux box, do tossing with Crashmail II on the same Linux box and then imports/exports all fidonet stuff via NFS to my Amiga. It's a pretty crazy setup in a way but it actually works fine.

Does Excelsior do it's own polling for FTN mail, or does it use an external mailer (Trapdoor)?

Let me know if you have any issues as I'm running my system on an Amiga. I'd
be glad to give you a hand.

All you need to do is replace Trapdoor with BinkD for transferring packets to and from your host. Nothing else changes.. You still use E!'s mail processing tools. You just can't launch a node from BinkD like you can from trapdoor because all binkd does is transfer mail. you will still need to setup a
working telnetd.device for each node you wish to run (change unit # for each node)

I didn't quite go to that extreme but I used linux binkd to get the mail then used binkd's inpath and exported to filebox

It came with a registered copy of Trapdoor which I still have.

Ok thanks. I'm going to look into binkd. Does anyone know what the last version number was?
