• Help w/ making distro

From thatonechap@46:1/104 to All on Mon Mar 16 17:33:30 2020
I want to make a distro that is a modification of Arch. All I want from it is to come with a very specific set of software and to not receive updates from Arch. How would I go about this?

I don't BBS much, but when I do, I have a question about something!

Can you go a level deeper on "not receive updates from Arch" ? That's a very non-secure distro :)

I could help figure out a debian roll-your-own distro with something like debootstrap but haven't looked into arch before. Check out archlabslinux.com
to see a custom built arch distro with an active forum. Maybe they can help. --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A45 2020/02/18 (Linux/64)

I'd love to hear about making a roll-your-own debian distro, but what I meant was make a distro that modifies very little of Arch to the point that it uses the same package manager connected to the same servers, but when syncing the packages, does not attempt to update my distro as it would an Arch distro.
I'm thinking that that's not possible and it would have to be conencted to different servers, but I just thought I'd ask :)

Why don't you want to update your distro? That's a security vulnerability.

it's not that i don't want to update it. i don't want it to receive updates that would turn it back from my distro into Arch.

Gotcha. You wouldn't have to worry about that, all good!
